Baliati Zamidar Bari or Baliyati Palace is one of the beautiful constructions of Bangladesh. Baliati Zamidar Bari is located about 33km northwest of Dhaka and about 9 km east of Manikganj District headquarters. It is a wonderful demonstration of some great buildings. You know there are two glorious period of palace construction in Indian region. One is Mughal Period and the other is British Raj. When the British ruled over Indian Subcontinent they weren’t only ones who were changing the construction styles. Many local Zamidar (feudal chief) were also made some magnificent Palaces. Baliati Shaha’s Family was one of them.

Baliati Zamindar bari is an extraordinary example of the 19th century palaces of Zamindars in Bangladesh. A fascinating set of buildings of their Zamindarbari extended the status of the majesty and affluence of the Saha family throughout undivided Bengal.

Baliati Zamidar Bari is one of the finest examples of 19th century monuments of the Renaissance colonial style in Bangladesh. The founder of the Baliati Zamidar was Govinda Ram Shaha, a prominent salt merchant in the middle of the 18th century. He left four sons; Dadhi Ram, Ananda Ram, Pandit Ram and Golap Ram. They built all these buildings. Notably, the famous Jagannath University in Dhaka was founded and endowed by a member of Baliati family, Babu Kishori Lal Ray Chowdhury.

The building complex consisted of seven but separate blocks surrounded by a high enclosure wall pierced by three indentical gateways surmounted with a lion.The complex occupying an area of 5.88 acres of land and containing over 200 rooms of various shapes and dimension. To the north there is a tank with regular masonry landings.The central block of upper story has a decorative hall called Rong Mohal is now using as a museum. This museum has only a small collection. It is established at building number three (from left).

When you will enter the gate you can find three lion gates and then there are four colossal building with Corinthian and British Raj styles. All the buildings sited here are gorgeous and elegant. The curving of the palaces wall is a wonderful aspect to see off. There are flowers, paint, gods and goddesses, fairy like figures in the walls.

There are more buildings next to four major buildings in Zamidar Bari. Some of them were used as officer’s quarters and some of them were used as guest house. In Baliati Zamidar Bari you can find more than 8 cisterns (Kuya) but all of them are dead! There is a big pond at the backside of the area. Four well decorated surrounding stairways in this pond. This is a marvelous place for day out and gossiping. The Baliati Zamindarbari unquestionably is one of the most excellent examples of Zamidar palace architecture developed in the 19th century. It can be happy day tour from Dhaka. So be prepare for a happy day tour for few hours!

Location

Baliati Palace is sited at Saturia Upazela in Manikgonj District. It is about 33 km away from Dhaka City and 9km from Manikgonj District. It is an easy going place from Dhaka City. You can easily move toward to Baliati Zamidar Bari from Gabtoli, Dhaka; Hemayetpur and Nabinagar of Savar.

How to Go Baliati Palace:

By Own Car from Dhaka:

To go Baliati Palace you have to go Saturia first. From Dhaka you have to go Dhaka-Nabinagar-Dhamrai highway. After 15 minutes driving from Nabinagar to Manikgonj road, there is a junction named Kalampur Mor (junction). From Kalampur Junction you have to turn on right side of the junction and move to Saturia Bus stand. From Saturia bus stand it took another 10 minutes to go Baliati Zamidar Bari.

By Public Transport:

Already you know that wonderful Baliati Palace is located at Saturia Upazela under Manikgonj District. There are two direct bus services from Dhaka Gabtoli which are directly move toward to Saturia. So if you want to go Baliati by bus you have to come Gabtoli for these buses. The names of two bus services are: S.B Link and Janasheba Paribahan. These bus also have their stoppage at Hemayetpur and Nabinagar in Savar. From Gabtoli they charge 60 taka and from Nabinagar they take 35 taka for Saturia Bus stand. After arriving Saturia you can take a Rickshaw or CNG auto rickshaw for Baliati Palace. CNG Auto rickshaw may take 10 taka person and rickshaw may take 50 taka. So be ready for a trip to a wonderful archeological place of Bangladesh!

Accomodation

It you wish to visit Baliati Palace, it will take only few hours. So you needn’t worry about accommodation. But if you want to stay Saturia, there is a Govt. guest house in Sadar Upazela. If you are lucky, you can get a room here.

Food Stuff

It will take three hours to go Saturia from Dhaka. It is better to have your lunch at Saturia. There are three restaurants near Saturira Bus Stand. They provide various kinds of delicious food items and sweets. You may find mouthwatering taste of village food in these restaurants. Prices of the food items are cheap. There are also some tea stall and stationary shops in front of Baliati Palace.

There are many interesting tourist spots in Manikganj district. Manikganj bears many historical events and archeological places. Most of them are ruined today. But some of them are still alive. So when you go to Baliati Zamidar Bari, you can also make a short visit to Tomb of Shah Rustam, Imampara Jami Masjid, Teota Rajbari, Navaratna Temple (Teota), Dhankora Zamidar Bari etc. Infront of Baliati Temple you can hire a auto rickshaw to go these places.

Very nice place. Very few people know this place. If Government and our media(paper,televishion) take proper step definately this place will be a better tourist place.
